Broken Bow Bliss: Mountains, Prayer, and Girl Time

Taken by Whitney

Okay, so Oklahoma… am I the only one who didn’t know this state has mountains? Because listen, your girl was impressed impressed! I just got back from a girls’ trip, and let me tell you, it was one for the books. We headed out on Tuesday and came back Thursday, way too short if you ask me.

Our meetup spot was Dallas, TX, but I decided to head there early the Saturday before since I had a couple of weeks to spare in between my travel assignments. My sister and cousin, Shamaaka, welcomed me with open arms, as always, a time was had! She’s from Louisiana too, iykyk lol.

Testimony:

But first, let me tell y’all about my flight experience. Deep sigh. I don’t know what it is about DFW airport, but this was the second time the weather decided to act up and delay my flight. Here’s the crazy part, my flight was already in the air, just 30 minutes away from landing, when DFW announced they weren’t allowing any planes to touch down because of the rain. So there we were, literally flying in circles for an hour.

Eventually, the pilot came over the intercom and said we’d be landing in OKC instead. Once we touched down, the flight attendants let us know we wouldn’t be deboarding since there was a chance we could refuel and head right back out.

That’s when I called on every intercessor I knew, like assembling the Avengers, to start praying! I was praying the house down. I was repenting for my sins, the pilot’s sins, the flight attendants’, everybody’s. I even prayed over the DFW dispatchers and asked for forgiveness on their behalf and covered their families too.

Now, what I didn’t mention earlier is that I’d been stuck at DFW before…for over 24 hours. Worst experience ever. I was not trying to relive that trauma. So yes, I forgave that airport and that airline in advance, because the last time…whew…God had to really work on me after that one

I was like, “God, whatever I gotta do, just get me out of here.” And He did, because as I was standing in line for the bathroom, I overheard (before the official announcement) that we got the green light for takeoff!🎉🙌🏾

Now, I’m part of a Christian community called Favor 365 (this trip was our yearly retreat), and we’re currently doing a 90-day fast. One of our commitments is not eating after 6 p.m. I was supposed to land in Dallas around 12:30 p.m., but by this time it was creeping past 2:40, and I still hadn’t eaten a thing. We made it to the runway, only to be delayed again. Thirty minutes later, we finally took off.

When we landed in Dallas, after a 45-minute flight, we ended up sitting on the runway for another 40 minutes because the plane at our gate was delayed. They switched our gate…but guess what? That plane was delayed too. Sigh.

At this point, my prayer was simple: “Daddy, I need to eat.” It was after 4:40, and I’d been on that plane for six hours. Now, let me just say, I usually fly basic economy, but Holy Spirit nudged me to upgrade my seat this time. It was free with my points, praise God! And honestly, I couldn’t imagine being cramped in a regular seat for that long. Glory!

I grabbed my bags, and by 4:50-ish, Shamaaka had us sitting pretty in a restaurant. More than enough time to eat, and let me tell you, that food was BUSSIN’! 😂 Afterwards, we linked up with our good sis Dayna, and we spent the evening catching up. It was exactly the kind of girl time I’d been missing.

Z(Me) and Shamaaka!

That Sunday, I visited The Potter’s House, and it was definitely an interesting experience. I really enjoyed the word. Then on Monday, we picked up our sisters Angel and Donielle.

We surprised Dayna with a little birthday celebration and knocked out a few last-minute errands before the trip.

Day 1:

Tuesday rolled around, and it was finally go time! We met up with the rest of the girls, there were 15 of us total, packed into two vans, and then we hit the road. Our destination: Broken Bow, Oklahoma. It was about a three-hour drive from Dallas. Of course, we had to make a stop at Buc-ee’s along the way, and let me tell you, the girls are still talking about it in the group chat. 😂 But seriously, those fries? They need to be studied.

My cousin, Whitney, and I! I met her during our last retreat in Mexico and we’ve been inseparable since.

The drive there (and back) was filled with nothing but laughter, inside jokes, and pure joy.

If you haven’t guessed it by now, this was a glamping trip, Glamping with God, to be exact. The house we stayed in was tucked deep in the mountains, and first of all, I beg your finest pardon…I’m still stuck on Oklahoma having mountains! Y’all know how I feel about them…they were absolutely stunning. The home itself looked like something straight out of an HGTV magazine, just gorgeous.

We unpacked, settled in, and spent the evening fellowshipping and playing hand games from our childhood. 😂 Our big sis and leader of Favor365, Raevyn, surprised us with the sweetest gifts: custom-made sleep masks engraved with Luke 1:39 and cozy socks that read “Walk by Faith.”

Gift exchange!

Later that night, we kicked off game night! Some of the ladies played Phase 10, a few played Spades, and the rest just hung out, laughed, and relaxed. Of course, I was part of the Spades crew…but we called it Christian Spades! 😂

Every time we slammed down a face card, we made it biblical. For the Kings, we’d yell, “David was a King!” For the Queens, “There go Queen Esther!” And when the Jacks hit the table, it was “Joseph had a coat!” 😂

But then Dayna slammed her card down and hollered, “Fat meat is greasy!” 😭 I’m still hollering.

Day 2:

The next morning, a few of us decided to go on a sunrise hike, and let me just say…totally worth it. The view was breathtaking, and the peace that came with it was everything.

After breakfast, Raevyn had us break off into groups of three. Our assignment? To pray for one another and share whatever we heard from God. Y’all… this session was powerful. Tears were shed, hearts were opened, and God truly moved. He really placed me right in the midst of some spirit-filled intercessors, and I felt every bit of it. 🙌🏾

After our group sessions, we had about an hour to get ready for our She Is Destined lunch. The theme? Glam. Think fur, bold accessories, and full-on Dynasty energy. When I tell you the ladies were stepping! It was giving old money and “Chauncey, please ready the private jet.” Inserts a wealthy shoulder shake 💅🏾

The restaurant we ate at was your classic small-town diner. It was cozy, a little dated, and filled with locals who probably eat there everyday. The moment we walked in, I just knew it was about to feel like one of those movie scenes where the record scratches to a stop because someone who doesn’t quite fit in just walked through the door. 😂 We definitely looked like the granddaughters of a family with “Van” in their last name, you know, Van der Something!

But to my surprise, the locals were actually super friendly, and our waitress was the absolute sweetest. S/O to LaTish, Broken Bow’s best server! It turned out to be such a warm, welcoming experience, small-town charm at its finest.

After lunch, our greedy butts started craving something sweet. 😂 So, we made a couple of dessert stops. The first stop was at a food truck that looked like it belonged in a carnival, and then at a local ice cream shop. But me? I decided to take things up a notch and grabbed a cheesecake smoothie from another food truck. 😩 I mixed mine with espresso and pistachio flavors. Now why did I do that? Because my goodness, I was in a full-on food coma afterward.

After our sweet adventures, we made it back to the cabin, and I immediately changed clothes. Some of the ladies slipped into their bathing suits for the jacuzzi, while others had a little photoshoot moment, snapping pics and making the cutest shorts and reels. Content was definitely being created! 😂

Later on, I decided to put on my non-existent Girl Scout hat and try to start a fire. After several failed attempts and finally realizing I was working with wet wood, my sis Brianna aka Breezy came to the rescue. I actually met her in Mexico, she was my roommate. Always a good time with her. She whipped out her masters’ degree from Google University, and honestly, it was way easier than we thought. A few adjustments later and voilà, we had fire! 🔥

That night, we had our She Is Healed prophetic prayer session. Each of us was prayed over and prophesied to by Raevyn, who is a true prophetess of God. After she shared a personal word from God with each of us, we took turns praying over her. Strongholds were broken, mindsets were shifted, and confirmations were given, it was truly a beautiful, spirit-filled experience.

Afterwards, Breezy and I made another fire (because I was determined lol) and enjoyed some s’mores. 🍫🔥

Day 3:

On the last day, we had a light breakfast and then headed back to Dallas.

My final thoughts?

Honestly, just grateful. I caught up with sisters I love and got to meet new sisters, too. God moved in such a sweet, undeniable way during this trip. I didn’t record much, because I felt led by Him to simply be present in the moment. I’m so glad I heeded Holy Spirit, this trip was truly one of them ones. 🙌🏽
